Nipple Reduction

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY NIPPLE REDUCTION SURGERY?

During your nipple reduction procedure, a local anesthetic will be used to allow you to be completely comfortable during the procedure. Then Dr. Hainer will make small incisions in the middle of your areola to carefully reshape the areola. The size and shape of your nipples will now be balanced, of a more attractive size and shape, and have an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

WHAT IS NIPPLE REDUCTION?

Nipple reduction surgery is performed in order to reduce the size of the nipples, correct nipple asymmetry, or produce a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to the nipple. Nipple reduction may be performed on both men and women who are seeking to create a more proportionate nipple to the breasts.

Occasionally women will develop enlarged nipples particularly after breast-feeding their children. Some men may also feel self-conscious about their nipple size and projection particularly when wearing tight, form-fitting clothing. Nipple reduction surgery addresses these issues by reducing the projection and sometimes the overall diameter of the nipples without affecting sensation or the ability to breast-feed in the future.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY FROM NIPPLE REDUCTION SURGERY LIKE?

You should expect some bruising, swelling, and tenderness following your nipple reduction surgery. Dr. Hainer will provide you with a prescription for pain medication to aid in your comfort if needed. Dissolvable stitches are generally used. You should plan to rest for several days following your nipple reduction surgery but may resume your normal activities within one week. It is important that you avoid strenuous activities in the early days following your procedure.
