Laser Hair removal is the newest option for the removal of unwanted hair.

Hair removal is accomplished by using a laser to generate a beam of intense, concentrated light which is directed through a small handpiece to the treatment site. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair casings selective damage to the follicle. While in a damaged state, the follicles do not generate hair. Because the laser treats more than one hair at a time, it is possible to treat larger areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs and face. Even sensitive areas such as the nipples, upper lip and bikini line can be treated easily and with minimal discomfort.

Here at North Oakland Plastic Surgery we are pleased to offer treatment using the Apex 800 Pulsed Diode System by Iridex, featuring the "Cooltip" Contact Colling Handpiece. The "Cooltip" provides epidermal protection before, during and after the pulse which allows the use of higher fluences, safely and more comfortably, even on darker skin.

The number of treatments required for optimal long term benefits depends on the area of treatment, the hair density and the hair growth cycle. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication and metabolism all play a part in hair's location, thickness and resilience. Our treatment plans begin with 4 sessions but additional treatments may be needed.
