What to Expect When Having Calf Augmentation
Anesthesia: General. You will sleep through the entire procedure.
Location of Operation: Hospital or outpatient surgery center.
Length of Surgery: 1-1 ½ hours
Length of Stay: Outpatient. The patient goes home the same day.
Discomfort: Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medications prescribed by the physician.
Antibiotics: These are taken after surgery for 10 days. It is very important that you take all of this medicine.
Swelling and Bruising: Minimal swelling and bruising. However, swelling is more likely the larger the implant. This will disappear in time. Be patient.
Bandages: The initial dressings on the incisions are covered by 4-inch Ace wraps. A script is given to the patient prior to surgery for support stockings, which will be worn after Dr. Hainer checks the incisions. These stockings will be worn for about 4 weeks.
Stitches: The sutures are all dissolvable.
Work: 1-2 weeks.
Exercise: May be resumed 6 weeks after surgery.
Sun Protection: If your scars are exposed while outdoors or using a tanning bed, you should protect them with sunscreen SPF 15 or higher for at least one year to prevent permanent discoloration.
